The hallway is one of the hardest-working spaces in any home. It’s the first thing you see when you come through the door, the last thing you pass on your way out, and it quietly takes the brunt of everyday life be it muddy shoes, school bags, buggies, dogs, coats and constant footfall.
It’s also one of the easiest rooms to put on the long finger. Too busy. Too disruptive. Too much hassle.
That’s exactly why we chose it as the first project in our Fleetwood Weekend Projects series.
Weekend Projects is about stripping decorating back to what most people actually need: clear guidance, reliable products and a finish that lasts longer than the weekend itself. No full renovations. No unrealistic timelines. Just one achievable project, start to finish, over a couple of days.
For Project One, we focused on a hallway refresh that could be completed from in one weekend – without turning the house upside down!
Working with Aileen Hogan of Shabby.ie, we tackled a typical busy hallway using a simple, proven paint system designed for real homes and real wear and tear.
Hallways might look straightforward, but they’re not a standard matt-paint situation. Scuffs, fingerprints and knocks are part of daily life, especially in family homes or high-traffic spaces.
That’s why durability was just as important as colour choice in this project.
The goal wasn’t just to make the hallway look better on day one – it was to keep it looking good months down the line.
To get a finish that could genuinely stand up to everyday use, we kept the product list tight and purposeful.
Easyclean Washable Matt on the walls
This was used throughout the hallway walls and for good reason. Easyclean Washable Matt is up to 50 times more durable than standard matt paint, making it ideal for high-traffic areas like hallways, stairs and landings. It’s stain-repellent, fully scrubbable and still gives that soft, non-shiny matt finish people want in their homes.
It’s also low odour and quick drying, which makes a huge difference when you’re decorating in a space you need to use constantly.
Advanced Satinwood on doors, trims and skirting
For the woodwork, Advanced Satinwood delivered a smooth, hard-wearing finish that can cope with knocks, kicks and daily handling. It gives a clean, modern look without feeling plasticky and is designed specifically for busy areas where durability matters.
Bloxx It Primer – where needed (doors)
Where woodwork needed priming, Bloxx It Primer was used to improve adhesion and ensure a consistent, long-lasting finish. It’s a simple step that makes a big difference to how well the topcoat performs over time.
One of the biggest barriers to decorating is not knowing where to start. This project breaks it down clearly:
Prep the space properly (clean walls, light sanding where needed, filling holes with filler)
Prime woodwork where required
Paint walls with Easyclean Washable Matt
Finish doors, trims and skirting with Advanced Satinwood
That’s it. No overcomplication. No unnecessary steps.
The products are quick drying and the hallway stays usable throughout the weekend.
By Sunday evening, the hallway was completely transformed. Cleaner, brighter and more welcoming, but also tough enough to cope with real life. Colours used are Anne’s Grove on the walls with Incas Dawn on the woodwork
It’s the kind of update that changes how your home feels the moment you walk through the door without committing to weeks of disruption.
This campaign is about confidence. Confidence that the products you’re using are designed for how homes are actually lived in. And confidence that a small, well-planned update can make a big difference.
The hallway is just the beginning.
Each Weekend Project will focus on one space, one clear plan and one achievable timeframe with full how-to content, product lists and step-by-step guidance you can follow at home.
If you’ve been putting off decorating because life is busy, this is your sign to start small and start smart.
One weekend. One project. Real results.
