Twin mom and digital creator Ally Carter is proof that creativity knows no bounds, even with two little ones demanding attention. Her latest masterpiece? A playful and inspiring transformation of her girls’ playroom in Pantone Tangerine. We caught up with Ally to uncover the process behind her vibrant design and get some expert tips on how you can inject fun into your own space.
What inspired you to paint the ceiling such a bold colour?
“I like to do things tastefully. But with a bit of fun. When Alison Dunne recommended that I use an orange colour in the playroom, I was over the moon. Orange is like my favourite colour. I thought it would be fun to do a dropped ceiling effect.” It’s fun, it’s playful, and it’s a focal point that pops against the rest of the homes colours.”
Any prep tips for others who want to paint their ceiling?
“I’m no expert, but what worked for me was using a microfibre cloth attached to a broom to get rid of the dust and cobwebs. Then I primed the ceiling – which was a great choice. It’s really made the Tangerine colour pop. For the clean lines, I used Fleetwood’s Washi Tape and a laser beam level. For cutting in with the primer and paint, the angled Pro-D brush was perfect”
Where do you get your brilliant ideas?
“I like to take inspiration from Pinterest and Instagram. I don’t like to copy the photos, but instead make them my own. I also mulled over the idea for a long time. I tried about 7 different oranges before deciding on Tangerine! I would say take inspiration from things you like and really mull over your choices.”
Ally’s stunning playroom transformation is proof that a little paint can go a long way. Her bold choice to paint the ceiling has us dreaming of endless possibilities.
