“My interest in Interior Design was always there and my mother has stories on how I had strong opinions on matters of colour growing up in Mayo. Interior designcCourses were not around when I did my Leaving Cert so it was after a 15 year hiatus in the world of Banking & Finance that I finally got an opportunity to pursue what really was my first choice! My years in Banking were not lost in that it gave me invaluable experience in people interaction, working to deadlines, costing and budgeting, attention to detail;  skills that I incorporate now in my work as a designer.”

“I approach each project with a fresh design perspective, creativity and passion to create spaces that reflect the personality of the client”.

“My favourite aspect of design is using Colour. I love the endless possibilities that paint and visually exciting textiles can provide and getting the balance right. This in addition to functionality forms the basis for any scheme that I work on.” http://sineadcassidydesign.com/

Catherine Ruane

Interior Designer Catherine Ruane  is based in Foxford, Co.Mayo and comes from a strong interior design and marketing background, with over 20 years’ experience in the sector.

“My love of design stemmed from my childhood really, I remember always being fascinated with different styles of houses and being enthralled by beautiful architraves. I have a great interest and understanding of the layout and design of a spaces and realised the importance of colour to make certain designs work.”

Catherine’s favourite aspect of interior design is carrying one colour through the house to create space. “All of my clients are unique in their wants and I work with them to provide a distinctive and individual feel to their house/building. Our homes are a very important part of who we are and how it shapes our memories. I think something small such as adding in a certain picture, photograph, ornament to a space can transform a room completely and of course works to achieve that uniqueness in your décor. My most favourite part of my job is the amount of pleasure I get when I revisit a home or get a message from client and the result of the project was much better than they had ever expected…then I’m reassured that I’m doing the right thing. It is an honour and a privilege from someone to trust you with designing their home and my input will be forever with them.”

Aileen Hogan

Almost 10 years ago, as the world of interiors witnessed a surge in popularity repurposing old furniture, Tipperary-based Aileen Hogan founded Shabby.ie after restoring her mother’s old kitchen table to its former glory and has subsequently become Ireland’s leading upcycling supply specialist.

Following a career as a flight attendant spanning 20 years, Hogan identified a burgeoning community of upcyclers who wanted to learn how to easily and professionally refinish tired or worn furniture and a niche for workshops, free advice and live tutorials.

She began manufacturing her own decorative furniture mouldings and in 2017, launched the Shabby School, the country’s first online learning platform for restyling furniture.

Shabby.ie recently collaborated with Fleetwood Paints to launch the new Shabby.ie Furniture Paint Colour Collection,  a high quality interior and exterior pre-mixed paint perfect for all furniture painting projects.

Originally from Dublin, Aileen Hogan was accepted to the Enterprise Ireland DCU Ryan Academy High Fliers Programme in March 2018 and accredited with the All Star Design Leader in Upcycling at the Croke Star All Star Business Summit.  Shabby.ie
